Tiger Reserves in India

A ‘Critical Tiger Habitat’ which is protected from hunting, killing, poaching etc. and managed by the government for tiger’s protection is known as Tiger Reserves. India is home for about 70% of tigers in the world. The “Project Tiger” is launched in 1973 specifically to protect tigers. It is governed by “National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)”. There are 50 tiger reserves in India under Project Tiger governed by NTCA. Initially, only nine tiger reserves were taken under the Projec Tiger. Later they went to 50 tiger reserves. But now in the 10th meeting of the Chattisgarh State Wildlife Board headed by Chief Minister Raman Singh stated the proposal of declaring “Bhoramdev Sanctuary” as “Tiger Reserve”. The final approval will be given by NTCA soon.

In 2020, there are nearly 3,000 tigers in India.
