“Piyush Goyal chairs first meeting of National Startup Advisory Council.”

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today chaired the first meeting of the National Startup Advisory Council.
  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade had constituted this Council to advise the Government on measures needed to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and startups in the country.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Mr Goyal said that this council will act as the guiding light for many budding startup entrepreneurs in India.
  • Appreciating the work done by the startups in all sectors, for finding innovative solutions to various problems, Mr Goyal said that India is a hub of innovation and out-of-the-box thinking.

“Amazon rolls out $250 million venture fund for small size.”

  • Amazon.com Inc. has sharpened its focus on India’s small and medium businesses (SMBs), introducing a $250 million Smbhav Venture Fund, focusing on digitization of small businesses; agri-tech innovations to raise farmer productivity; and health tech for quality universal healthcare.
  • Speaking on the first day of Amazon Smbhav Summit, Andrew Jassy, who takes over as chief executive officer at Amazon Inc. later this year, described SMBs as the “engine and the lifeblood of economies”, including in India.

“India-France Ink Deal For Cooperation On Gaganyaan Mission.”

  • The Indian and French space agencies on Thursday signed an agreement for cooperation for the country’s first human space mission Gaganyaan, the French space agency CNES said.
  • ISRO has asked CNES to help prepare for Gaganyaan missions and to serve as its single European contact in this domain.
  • The agreement was announced during French Foreign Affairs minister Jean-Yves Le Drian visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) headquarters.

“Secretary MeitY inaugurates three new initiatives of NIXI.”

  • Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Ajay Prakash Sawhney today inaugurated three path breaking initiatives for National Internet Exchange of India, NIXI.
  • These initiatives are IP Guru, NIXI Academy and NIXI-IP-INDEX.  The IP Guru is a group to extend support to all the Indian entities who are finding it technically challenging to migrate and adopt Internet Protocol version, IPv6.
  • In addition to this the group will help in identifying and hiring agency that will help end customer by providing necessary technical support to adopt IPv6.

“Piyush Goyal Launches “e-SANTA”, an Electronic Marketplace For Aqua Farmers.”

  • Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal has inaugurated e-SANTA, an electronic marketplace, to provide a platform for connecting aqua farmers and buyers. e-SANTA aims to raise income, lifestyle, self-reliance, quality levels, traceability, of aqua farmers.
  • e-SANTA stands for Electronic Solution for Augmenting NaCSA farmers’ Trade-in Aquaculture.
  • Here, the term National Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture (NaCSA) is an extension arm of the Marine Products Export Development Authority.
  • It will act as an alternative marketing tool between farmers & buyers by eliminating middlemen.
  • The platform will help the farmers to get a better price and the exporters to directly purchase quality products from the farmers and enhancing traceability.

“US President Biden announces complete troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.”

  • US President Joe Biden has announced that all American troops would be withdrawn from Afghanistan by September 11 this year, thus bringing to end the country’s longest war.
  • US troops, as well as forces deployed by our NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Allies and operational partners, will be out of Afghanistan before the 20th anniversary of that heinous attack on September 11 (2001).

  • An Indian-American Congressman has introduced a resolution in the US House of Representatives for a second consecutive year to honour Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution, on his 130th birth anniversary so that young leaders around the world can be inspired by his vision for equality.
  • The resolution states that Dr Ambedkar’s contributions to economics, political science, civil rights, religious harmony, and jurisprudence have had a profound impact around the world, promoting democratic values, unfettered equality, and justice for peoples of all castes, races, genders, religions, and backgrounds.

“Pohela Boishakh (Subho Noboborsho) 2021.”

  • Pohela Boishakh, also known as Bengali New Year, is the traditional New Year day of the Bengali people.
  • The festival date is set according to the lunisolar Bengali calendar as the first day of its first month Baishakh. However, the festival falls on April 14 or April 15 every year in India.
