32 projects sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana

  • Thirty-two projects, spread across 17 states and leveraging an investment of Rs 406 crore were sanctioned in the inter-ministerial approval committee under the ‘Unit’ scheme of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana(PMKSY) headed by Food Processing Industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
  • The projects approved are running across quadrilaterals of the country covering over 100 agro-climatic zones. The Processed food market is expected to grow to $ 543 billion by 2020 from $ 322 billionn in 2016, at a CAGR of 14.6%, said an official statement of the ministry.

Eastern Zonal Council meeting underway in Bhubaneswar

  • A meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council, comprising of states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, is being held here on Friday.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah is chairing the meeting in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are present.

Reach of banking will be increased in North-East region specially in tea garden areas, says Finance Minister

  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is meeting with trade and industry representatives, economists and policy experts in Guwahati today.
  • During the interactive session, the minister said that the Government is committed to steadily move towards less regressive regime and to help close all disputes pertaining to taxation.
  • The minister added that local Self Help Groups will be given greater access to credit to supplement the economy. She also said that traditional industries in the Northeast should have facilities to exhibit themselves. The minister is slated to interact with bankers also.

National Science Day: What is the ‘Raman effect’?

  • In 1986, the Government of India designated February 28 as National Science Day, to commemorate the announcement of the discovery of the “Raman effect”.
  • The Raman effect won scientist Sir CV Raman the Nobel Prize for physics in 1930. It was also designated as an International Historic Chemical Landmark jointly by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS).

Explained: Govt to establish Central Consumer Protection Authority

  • Last week, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan announced that a Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) will be established by the first week of April.
  • This was after the Minister held consultations with industry representatives about the role and functioning of a proposed CCPA.

NITI Aayog, NASSCOM jointly launch AI-based modules for schools

  • With an imperative to empower the youngest minds of the country with the latest technologies, an AI-based Module was launched for students in Indian schools here on Thursday.
  • The module was launched by NITI Aayog, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). The module contains activities, videos, and experiments that enable students to work through and learn the various concepts of AI.
  • Sharing his thoughts, CEO, NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant said that India can add 1.3 per cent to its GDP on an annual basis through the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

HAL offers new multirole chopper to Indian armed forces

  • State-run Hindustan Aeronautics LtdNSE -5.61 % (HAL) on Thursday offered an indigenous multirole helicopter to the Indian armed forces for replacing its medium lift choppers such as MI-17s, Kamovs and Seakings.
  • “We have apprised Defence Minister Rajnath Singh of the progress made on the design and development of the multirole helicopter for induction in the Indian Air Force (IAF), Navy and Army,” HAL Chairman R. Madhavan said in a statement here.
  • The city-based defence behemoth displayed a mockup of the multirole helicopter to Rajnath Singh at its helicopter production facility in the city’s eastern suburb.

India and Myanmar Sign 10 MoUs, Focus on Development Projects in Conflict-torn Rakhine

  • India and Myanmar signed on Thursday 10 agreements with a focus on the socio-economic development of the southeast Asian nation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Myanmarese President U Win Myint.
  • The Myanmarese president, who arrived in India on Wednesday, received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He and First Lady Daw Cho Cho were welcomed by President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Modi.
