Infosys, Qualcomm partner for smart cities solutions

  • Software major Infosys on Tuesday said it was partnering with US-based chip maker Qualcomm to offer smart cities solutions through the latter’s accelerator programme.
  • “We have joined the Qualcomm smart cities accelerator programme to offer solutions for smart stadiums, smart venues and smart event management,” said the city-based IT major in a statement here.

State Bank of India reduces FD rates. Here are the latest ones

  • For the second time in less than a month, the State Bank of India (SBI) has cut interest rates on fixed deposits (FD) for certain tenors. Interest rates on short-term FDs with tenure of up to 45 days has been reduced sharply by 50 basis points or 0.50 per cent. (100 basis point = 1 per cent). The new rates are effective from March 10, 2020.
  • According to the newly effective interest rate, FD having tenor of 7 to 45 days will earn 4 per cent instead of 4.5 per cent earlier.

Make in India’ Initiative in Defence Sector

  • ‘Make in India’ programme is being used by the Government for defence procurements by categorising the capital acquisition proposals under ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’, ‘Buy (Indian)’, ‘Buy and Make (Indian)’, ‘Make’ and ‘Strategic Partnership Model’ categories of Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)-2016.
  • DPP -2016 focuses on institutionalising, streamlining and simplifying defence procurement procedure to give a boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India.

CRPF institutes special ‘Shakti’ award for women empowerment

  • The CRPF has instituted a special ‘Shakti Award’ that will be annually given to a chosen personnel who works for the empowerment of women, a senior official said.
  • The award has been announced just before International Women’s Day on March 8 and will be given every year on March 19, the CRPF Raising Day.
