UGC NET 2020

UGC NET Exam is conducted twice in a year, once in the month of June and then in the month of December. Until July 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was responsible for conducting the UGC NET exam but from December 2018 onwards, NTA is conducting the UGC National Eligibility Test. Each year lakhs of candidates apply for UGC NET to become Assistant Professor and JRF in Indian Colleges & Universities.

If we go by the figures of 2019, approximately 7.93 lakh candidates had taken the test. Therefore, it is expected that the figures might go up this year as well. In this article, we give you every possible detail of the UGC NET June Exam. 

UGC NET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Cracking UGC NET is a good opportunity for the candidates who wish to make their career in the field of teaching. Therefore, for the convenience of the aspiring candidates, we have provided the eligibility criteria below.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from UGC recognized Universities/Institutions.
  • Candidates should have scored:
    General Candidates: 55% marks
    Reserved Category Candidates: 50% marks.
  • Candidates, those appearing in the final semester of the master’s degree can also apply.
  • Percentage relaxation is given to Ph.D. degree holders in aggregate marks.

Age Limit

Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) – For Junior Research Fellowship the upper age limit is 30 years as of 1st June 2020. However, age relaxation is given for the Reserved Category of Candidates.

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor

 

Fee For UGC NET 2020

The application fee is determined by the NTA as per the category of the candidate. The fee for UGC NET is to be paid online only.

The UGC NET Exam Pattern has been discussed on this page. Like most of the Govt. Exams, UGS NET is also conducted for two papers, Paper I and Paper II. The questions asked in both the papers are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with no negative marking.

UGC NET Exam Pattern For Paper I

As per the NTA norms for NET Paper I, “The questions will be generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.”  Check out the table that is given below for a broad understanding.

UGC NET Paper II

As per the NTA norms, Paper II will be based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge. Like Paper I, this paper will also be of MCQ with four options for every question asked.

Points To Note For UGC NET Paper I & Paper II

  • The questions will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with four (4) options.
  • For each correct answer, the candidate will get 2 marks.
  • There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in UGC NET 2020 Exam.
  • No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/Marked for Review.

 

UGC NET 2020 Marking Scheme

As mentioned above the UGC NET Exam comprises of two papers, Paper I and Paper II. Two marks (2) are awarded for every correct answer. There is no negative marking for any incorrect answer.

UGC NET Syllabus 2020 is different for different topics asked in the CBT Exam. To ace the exam, a candidate must be well versed in all the chapters of each topic asked in UGC NET 2020 Exam. The syllabus for Paper I and Paper II is discussed below.

UGC NET 2020 OFFICIAL Notification  

The University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Through this exam, Indian candidates are selected for the post of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian Universities and Colleges. 

The last date to apply online is extended to 30th  June 2020 (Extended). Earlier the last date to apply online for the UGC NET was 31st May, then it was extended to 15th June 2020 due to the widespread of coronavirus. This time again the UGC NET Application date has been extended.
