LIC AAO Selection Process

The LIC AAO exam is conducted in three stages. Following are the stages in the LIC AAO exam:

LIC AAO Eligibility Criteria 2020

The candidates must ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions before appearing in the LIC AAO exam. The eligibility conditions are the minimum conditions which need to be achieved by the candidates. 

LIC AAO age limit

As per the official notification, the date mentioned for age calculations is March 1 of the exam year. The candidate must have attained the age of 21 and must not exceed the age of 30 years. (The candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.03.1990 and not later than 01.03.1999 both days inclusive). Following age relaxation is provided to the reserved category candidates:

Educational Qualification required for LIC AAO

Since there are functionally different positions notified under the umbrella exam of LIC AAO, the educational qualifications required for all the posts are different. Following are the required post-wise required educational qualification:

For AAO (Generalist): Graduation degree in any discipline.

For AAO (IT): Bachelors degree in Engineering in Computer Science, IT or Electronics, or an MCA, or an MSc(Computer Science).

For AAO (Chartered Accountant): Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian University/Institution and candidate should have passed the final examination of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and completion of articles as presented by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

The candidate should be Associate member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Candidates need to provide their membership number and it will be verified with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

For AAO (Actuarial): Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a
recognized Indian University/Institution and Candidates should have compulsorily passed paper CT1 and CT5 plus 4 or more other papers of the examination conducted by the Institute of Actuaries of India / Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK. (Total 6 or more papers) as on the date of eligibility i.e. March 1, 2020. 

Candidates should provide their membership number and the same will be verified with Institute of Actuaries of India / Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK. 

For AAO (Rajbhasha): Post Graduate Master’s Degree in Hindi/Hindi translation with English as one of the subjects at Bachelor’s Degree level 
or
Post Graduate Master’s Degree in English with Hindi as one of the subjects at Bachelor’s degree level
or
Post Graduate Master’s Degree in Sanskrit with English and Hindi as subjects at Bachelor’s degree level.

All the educational qualifications mentioned should be obtained from a University/Institute/ Board recognised by Govt. of India / approved by the Government Regulatory Bodies and the result should have been declared on or before March 1, 2020. It implies that the candidates appearing in the last year of their graduation degree are not eligible to appear in the LIC AAO exam.

LIC AAO 2020 Prelims Exam Pattern

LIC AAO prelims exam is conducted online at various centres across the nation. The LIC AAO Prelims has three sections and the total allotted time is 1 hour. The medium of exam will be English and Hindi. The time duration for each section is 20 minutes. The candidates have to score minimum qualifying numbers marked for each section.

After the exam, the authority will decide the cut-off marks for the LIC Prelims exam. LIC AAO prelims marks will not be counted for the final merit. English Language Test will be of qualifying nature and the marks obtained will not be counted for ranking.

The number of candidates who will pass the LIC AAO prelims exam will be 20 times the number of vacancies notified in official notification.

LIC AAO Main Exam 

LIC AAO main exam is conducted online to select the candidates for the interview stage. The LIC AAO exam is conducted for the various functionally distinct positions and hence the main exam has a different pattern for each post. The medium of exam will be English and Hindi for all sections except the English section. There will be 30 questions for each section except the descriptive test.

The LIC AAO main exam consists of two type of questions

  • Objective test - 300 marks 
  • Descriptive type - 25 marks

Descriptive paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who qualify in the objective part of the main examination. The English Language Test is of qualifying nature and marks obtained in it will not be counted for the final merit. The pattern of LIC AAO exam is given separately for all the positions:

LIC AAO Interview

LIC AAO Interview is the last stage of the selection process. The number of candidates to be called for interview will be about three times the number of vacancies to be filled.
After the interview, the final result will be declared and the candidates will be sent for the medical test.

How normalisation of marks is done in LIC AAO?

Normalisation is a process undertaken to provide a level playing field to all the candidates appeared in different slots and different question papers. The scores of examination are obtained by adopting the following procedure:

  1. Number of questions answered correctly by a candidate in each objective test is considered for arriving at the Score.
  2. The score so obtained by a candidate are made equivalent to take care of the minor difference in difficulty level, if any, in each of the objective tests held in different sessions to arrive at the Equated Scores obtained by candidates on any test are equated to the base form by considering the distribution of scores of all the forms.
  3. Test wise scores and scores on total are reported with decimal point up to two digits.
  • There are three stages of exam in the LIC AAO recruitment process. The patter of each stage of LIC AAO exam is different. The LIC AAO prelims exam is the first stage. There is no negative marking in the LIC AAO exam. Till 2016, there was negative marking in LIC AAO main exam.
